On Site Painter for Structural steel work
Job description:
Key Responsibilities:
**Surface Preparation:**
- Inspect and prepare steel surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and removing rust, scale, and contaminants.
- Apply appropriate primers and ensure surfaces are prepped according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
**Painting:**
- Apply primers, intermediate, and top coats using various methods including brushing, rolling, and spraying.
- Ensure even coverage and adherence to specified thickness, avoiding runs, sags, and other defects.
**Fire Protection Application:**
- Apply fire protection coatings in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and safety standards.
- Ensure correct application to achieve necessary fire resistance ratings.
**Touch-Ups and Steel Connections:**
- Perform touch-up on painted surfaces to correct any damage or imperfections.
- Paint on-site steel-to-steel connections to ensure uniform coverage and protection.
**Quality Control:**
- Inspect painted surfaces for quality, consistency, and adherence to specifications.
- Perform touch-up and repairs as needed to maintain high-quality standards.
**Equipment Maintenance:**
- Maintain and clean painting equipment, tools, and work areas.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any malfunctions or needs for repair.
**Safety and Compliance:**
- Adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow all UK regulations and guidelines for the disposal of paints and related materials.
**Collaboration and Communication:**
- Coordinate with site supervisors, project managers, and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and project completion.
- Communicate any issues, delays, or needs for additional materials or resources promptly.
**Customer Relations:**
- Maintain a professional and courteous manner when interacting with clients.
- Address any client concerns or queries promptly and effectively.

Experience required:
**Qualifications:**
- Proven experience as an industrial painter, preferably in structural steel fabrication.
- Proficiency with primers from manufacturers like Sherwin-Williams and PPG.
- Experience with the application of fire protection coatings.
- Knowledge of various painting techniques and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, such as paint specifications and safety data sheets.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions and at heights.
- Clean driving licence.
- Good customer relationship and communication skills.
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) certification.
- IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) certification.
Qualifications:
Preferred
- Certification or training in industrial painting or coatings.
- Knowledge of UK health and safety regulations.
- ICorr Level 1 (Institute of Corrosion) paint qualification.

Mainly North East and Yorkshire, Nationwide Travel Required
