What made you decide to join SCH Site Services at this stage in your life?
It was a great opportunity to advance my knowledge in welding and steel erection.
How has your experience been so far compared to what you expected before starting?
I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve been doing so far. When I first started, I didn’t think I would be doing half the stuff I’ve done and I’m quite proud of how fast I am picking it up.
What have you learned during your time here that you didn’t expect?
I’ve learned a lot about steel erection and some about welding that I didn’t know before starting here. I’ve also learnt quite a bit on site where I don’t really need to be told what to do and instead, I am able to work things out for myself.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your role so far?
Probably trying to get used to everyone’s way of work. While working with so many different people you learn to understand how they tackle jobs and learn from their way of doing it.
What part of the job has been the most enjoyable or interesting for you?
Probably the welding side. I’ve always enjoyed welding and am quite eager to learn more about it.
How do you feel this experience has shaped your understanding of the working world?
It’s shaped me into a better person that wants to work towards his goals.
What aspect of the job do you find most different from what you expected?
The drawing. Am not the best of understanding them yet but I’m learning!
How have your colleagues or mentors helped you during your time here?
They have taught me a lot about the job and the best way to look at and treat the job.
Do you feel more confident in any particular areas since starting the job?
Yeah, in some parts of the job am more understanding where some parts I might need a bit more help which people are willing to give me.
What advice would you give to someone your age who is thinking about starting a similar role?
Give it a try, you might enjoy it better than you think!
Fancy a career in steelwork?
Take Harry as an example!
He’s learned so much in a short time and truly enjoys the job.
Thank you for your insights, Harry, and a huge thanks for your hard work so far!
