SCH are specialists in the refurbishment of existing structures within retail shopping centres and city centre redevelopments. They have now completed several refurbishment projects for Sir Robert McAlpine in the North East of England: The Gates Odeon Cinema and Student accommodation in Durham, intu Metrocentre’s NextBox, Platinum Mall, The Qube, The Qube 2, intu Eldon Square’s Greys Quarter and Northumberland Street Entrance. SCH also worked in Partnership with Finley Structures on the Odeon Cinema project in The Metro Centre which replaced the Metroland fun park in 2008.
MD Gary Finley said,
“We have cut our teeth on the redevelopment projects in the NorthEast over the last 10 years giving us the experience needed to tackle the change in the market from new builds to redevelopment projects”
The latest project was the redevelopment of the former BHS store at intu Metrocentre, which will see Next moving into what we be one of their biggest stores in early 2018. The store has been completely redeveloped over the past few months and the 85,000 sq ft unit sees Next doubling its existing floor space. It will encompass space used by BHS’s intu Metrocentre outlet for 30 years until its closure this summer and is set to bring a number of new jobs to the shopping centre. The work around the new Next store forms just part of the current investment programme at intu Metrocentre which in recent years has seen a refurbishment of the shopping centre’s Platinum Mall , as well as a significant extension to its dining and leisure quarter Qube which was completed at Easter.
SCH completed their part of the work on Qube 2 in April 2016 delivering a very complex and intricate build having to work within all of the existing structures and demolition works.
Bosses at intu Metrocentre have unveiled a raft of new operators who are heading to the shopping and leisure complex as part of a £17m development
